Dr. Lucinda Gray, Ph.D.
Clinical Psychologist
About Me

I have been a licensed psychologist for the past 25 years. I have a beautiful office with a relaxed private setting, which enhances and supports the work I love.

I received my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in 1977, and was licensed in 1979 (lic. # PSY5969). In graduate school I trained in traditional psychoanalytic methods and Jungian psychology as well as newer adaptations of Freud’s’ work, such as Self Psychology and Object Relations. I chose Client Centered Therapy as my primary specialty area. I have completed several different post doctoral training programs for my own personal healing and for my work with clients. These include body oriented methods of healing, such as Yoga, Integrative Body Psychotherapy, and aupressure training.

I trained in Focusing with Eugene Gendlin, Ph.D. and I am now a Coordinator in the International Focusing Network. My practice has evolved over the years, and now includes Focusing Oriented Psychotherapy and other body oriented approaches as well as EMDR, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

Over many years I studied and practiced many forms of meditation, beginning with Zen Buddhist practices.  For the past twenty five years I have practiced advanced Tibetan Buddhist visualization methods for the cultivation of peace, insight and benign compassion. Now I have developed a new meditation, more suited to westerners, which I call Fast Track Meditation. It is faster and easier to learn than traditional meditation practices and it provides a path to emotional healing as well as the benefits of more traditional practices.

My Approach to Healing

I will work with you as the unique person you are. Because I have been a therapist for a long time I have explored and developed expertise in many different techniques and approaches to the change process. I believe that no lasting change can happen without a bodily felt experience of difference. Just talking about it isn’t enough. I find great value in the basic ideas of Client Centered therapy, the work of Carl Rogers and Eugene Gendlin. What draws me to this work is the sense of individual freedom the work embodies. The Client Centered philosophy is based on the idea that each person is the expert on himself or herself. You and only you know what’s right for you. My job as your therapist is to help you learn to find the answers within yourself. Everything you need to know is already there, inside, and you just need to learn how to connect with your own inner knowing. Therefore my work is geared toward helping you find action steps that reflect your own true nature and your unique needs.
